About Abigail

Abigail is an native of Oregon who resides in from Salem, Oregon. At 25 years old, Abigail is a passionate elementary school teacher, currently teaching third grade. She is a proud graduate of Linfield University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Abigail's commitment to education is further demonstrated by her pursuit of a Master's in Education (M.Ed.) with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction.

Abigail’s journey is marked by resilience and determination. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 10, she has turned her personal challenge into a source of inspiration and advocacy. Her community service initiative, "Making Type 1 Diabetes Feel Like Type None Diabetes," aims to support and empower individuals living with diabetes.

Beyond her role as an educator, Abigail is also a licensed esthetician, having graduated from Tangled Ends Hair Academy. She is a small business owner and a licensed makeup artist, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and diverse talents.

Community Service and Advocacy

Abigail’s community service initiative, "Making Type 1 Diabetes Feel Like Type None Diabetes," reflects her deep commitment to supporting those affected by diabetes. Diagnosed at a young age, Abigail understands the challenges and strives to make a positive impact through her advocacy. Her efforts are aimed at raising awareness, providing support, and empowering individuals to live fulfilling lives despite their diagnosis.

As an educator, Abigail is dedicated to creating inclusive curricula that nurture an entrepreneurial mindset among students of all abilities. Her goal is to design innovative educational experiences that cater to diverse learning needs, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Achievements and Talents

Abigail's accomplishments are a testament to her dedication and hard work. She has coordinated and produced elementary talent and art shows for two years, showcasing her organizational skills and commitment to promoting the arts. Her excellence in teaching was recognized with the James B. Conway Award for Excellence in Teaching. Additionally, she has served as a Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) representative for two years.

A former Miss Oregon’s Outstanding Teen (2016), Abigail continues to shine in the pageant community. Her performance talent is a captivating Latin jazz dance to Jennifer Lopez’s “Let’s Get Loud.”

She practices habit tracking by setting small goals and shares her journey on social platforms to inspire her followers.

Being a diabetic, Abigail is very in tune with her body’s needs. She prioritizes listening to her body to avoid harmful comparisons, ensuring she can show up for her students and achieve her long-term goals without risking injury or burnout.

Future Goals and Bucket List

Abigail is driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact. Here are three items on her bucket list for the next five years:

  1. Publish a children’s book about her brother Charlie’s life.

  2. Participate in the coin toss for the Oregon State versus University of Oregon rivalry football game.

  3. Visit the town where her grandmother grew up in Puerto Rico.
